WEPA Fall Meeting
November 4, 1995
Call to Order: Mike Graper
Approved: Minutes of 2/21/95 meeting
New Business:
Treasurer: Current balance of $ 6,800 income generated primarily from membership dues
Linda Werkhauser spoke on behalf of the Wisconsin State Horse Council. Did you know that….
– The Council now manages the Wisc Horse Fair held at the Dane County Coliseum each spring.
– The Council grants scholarships to three qualified students each year.
– The Council funds research at U-W Madison School of Veterinary Medicine each year.
– A state Senator in the LaCrosse area is hoping to eliminate Coggins testing entirely!
It was moved and passed unanimously that the WEPA re-establish its membership status with the WSHC and ensure that a representative be present at Council meetings.
Scholarship fund: A motion was passed giving Bill Lindsay permission to investigate what would be involved in creating a scholarship to honor Brian Oetjen’s contributions to the equine industry in Wisconsin.
WEPA Meetings: There was discussion regarding scheduling programs in conjunction with WVMA meetings and the past philosophy of our organization. Better attendance is needed at our meetings. A motion was passed unanimously that the Vice-Presidency is responsible for all aspects of organizing the twice-yearly meetings.
Lakeshore Technical College: The equine program at Lakeshore is being phased out. Similar classes will be offered at Waukesha Technical College.
Looking ahead – the topic of our spring meeting, to be held 2/25/96, will be Equine Reproduction. We will again be looking for assistance at the Midwest Horse Fair booth in creating a display and being present at our booth. Are you interested in serving as the Official Veterinarian at horse shows in 1996? Please contact Bill Lindsay (608-835-8619) or Barb Svang (414-646-3847).
