Winter Meeting, January 20th, 2007

Dr Judy Batker called the meeting to order at 1:40 PM. The business meeting was conducted in conjunction with the continuing education seminar held at the Marriott West, Middleton, WI, and featuring Dr Gabrielle Landolt speaking on Equine Infectious Respiratory Diseases. Thirty-five veterinarians and students attended.

Dr Dean Peterson motioned to accept the minutes from the Sept 29, 2006 meeting. Dr Nesson offered a second. Motion passed.

Dr Mark VanAcker moved to accept the treasurer’s report. Motion was approved.

AAEP scholarship winners were Rebecca Kreuger and J R Gunderman. A “Thank You” was received from Ms Krueger.

Dr Batker thanked Boehringer Ingleheim and Idexx for sponsoring today’s meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:

Dr Dean Peterson provided forms to facilitate donations to the foundation and thanked the board for a successful fall meeting.

Future WEPA Inc meeting dates are: Sept 27, 2007 to be held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds; January 2008 in Madison (the same weekend as the UW meeting); and again at Jefferson County on Sept 19, 2008.

Large Animal Rescue Course is scheduled for June 22-25 and June 28-July 1, 2007 at the Bristol Equestrian Center in Sun Prairie. Volunteer vets are needed – please contact Dr Howard Ketover for more information.

WEPA Inc will accept advertising placements in their mailings for a $ 25 fee that includes 5 lines of text. Additional lines will be $ 5 per line.

Drs Ketover, Batker and Rice attended a question and answer forum for the UW student AAEP chapter in November 2006.

NEW BUSINESS:

Dr LeVasseur offered his resignation as incoming VP due to personal time constraints. Dr Lisa Nesson assumed the VP position. Dr’s Jean Elmer and Tani Ketter accepted nominations for Secretary/Treasurer and Delegate at Large respectively. Dr Peterson moved for approval, and Dr LeVasseur seconded. Motion passed.

Dr LeVasseur introduced Ms Leslie Grundahl, WVMA executive director, who explained the aspects of a “position statement” on alternative therapies by non-veterinarians. Prior to WEPA Inc adopting a statement, it was decided to table the motion to allow further discussion.

Legislation: HR 503 & 5311 – the Senate has reintroduced motions to bar horse slaughter.

Dr Jon Gieche provided information on the use of Sedivet in dental procedures in the afternoon seminar session.
